Hackney Council has won the ‘Best Programme of Support for Small Businesses’ award in the London Small Business Friendly Borough Awards for its work supporting small businesses, start ups and entrepreneurs. The Hackney Business Network was developed to support the 99% of Hackney businesses that are classed as small and medium sized enterprises.
The network includes business forums and other free events, a regular newsletter and an online business portal that provides access to local business news, events, commercial property search and signposting to free business advice and support.
Cllr Guy Nicholson, Cabinet Member for Business, Planning and Investment said: “It was a real privilege to receive on behalf of the Council the award for the 'Best Programme of Support for Small Businesses'. The award given by the Federation of Small Businesses and London Councils, recognises the Council’s work supporting our boroughs small businesses who are the very foundation of our local economy, creating great town centres and providing quality goods and services to Hackney's communities and beyond.
“The Hackney Business Network is a free service set up to provide support, information and sign post to opportunities for our local businesses. The award recognises the impressive work achieved so far, but over the coming months the Network will be expanding making it easier for those of us who are running businesses to talk to and work with the Council. From accessing Council services and connecting with Council contracts to accessing finance, markets and advice to grow your business.”
The London Small Business Friendly Borough Awards are organised by the London Region of The Federation of Small Businesses and London Councils to recognise and celebrate local authority initiatives to support small and micro businesses.
