Sign the plastic bag pledge
Eight billion plastic bags were handed out in England last year. Plastic bags create litter and damage the environment, so it is important to reduce the number that are given out.
To help reduce the amount of plastic bags, from 5 October 2015 all large shops must charge customers 5p for each plastic bag they take.
We are inviting you to join other shops around Hackney and pledge to stop offering free plastic bags to your customers. You will not be alone - the National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN), which represents over 15,000 small shops, is advising all its members to bring in the 5p charge too.
What do I have to do?
Do not offer plastic bags to customers unless they ask for one
If a customer asks for a bag, consider charging them 5p for any plastic bags they use and donate the profits to a good cause.
