Hackney Museum and Hackney Archives is inviting applications from visual artists, illustrators and architects who wish to develop their practice in new ways by working with Hackney Museum and Hackney Archives’ First World War (WW1) collections and developing public engagement activities.
We are particularly interested in practitioners with a socially engaged practice which will draw on the unique collections held in both collections and the communities in the London Borough of Hackney.
The residency will take place between 20 Dec 2015 and 6 April 2016, and is open to London-based practitioners who have a good knowledge of the London Borough of Hackney. The resident will be provided with a set fee of £3500, which includes a materials budget.
The selected resident will be provided with support from Museum and Archive staff to develop the final brief for the artwork. Public areas of the Museum will be made available for public engagement activities.
Applicants will be short-listed and those selected will be invited for interview. Interviews will take place on Tuesday 15 December 2015 at Hackney Museum. Candidates must be available for interview on this date. Hackney Museum will not cover any travel costs for the interview. Due to limited resources, we are not able to provide feedback to applicants who are not shortlisted.
Closing date for applications: Sunday 6 December 2015 midnight
Interviews with short-listed artists: Tuesday 15 December 2015
Residency Length: 20 Dec 2015 – 6 April 2016
