Welcome to the new Invest in Hackney website, a free service from the Hackney Council.
Our aim is to help you make the decision about whether to invest in the London Borough of Hackney.
You’ll find background information on our key business sectors, the different town centres that comprise Hackney, the different ways that we support business investment and business expansion and details of our free Ways into Work service that will help you find the right people to grow your business.
Hackney is the place where you’ll always find something new happening around the corner. We pride ourselves in the award winning title of the Creative Heart of London. That creativity can be seen on the streets every day in any one of our independent shops, cafes and restaurants; as well as in the country’s fastest growing creative tech sector that’s spilling out of Shoreditch into the central and northern town centres of Hackney Central, Hackney Wick and Dalston.
We are passionate about safeguarding and improving the public realm and the businesses that Invest in Hackney are ones who share our vision for a vibrant commercial sector that supports excellence and contributes to the cultural and environmental development of the borough.
Our team works with businesses every day and actively promotes networking and showcasing local talent. We produce regular newsletters for local businesses and host regular networking events through our Hackney Business Network. To sign up please email us at: email@example.com
Working with our private sector partners we’ve created exciting, innovative showcase venues such as Hackney House and BL-NK.
BL-NK will be open until October 2014 and is located on East Road in Shoreditch, hosting networking and business development events (www.bl-nk.org)
We have also been taking our brand overseas with our award winning Hackney House concept – a pop up expo venue that will appear next in Austin Texas at the SXSW Festival in March 2014 (www.hackneyhouse.org)
On December 1st 2013 we launched our ambitious programme of creative lighting and animations, Make Hackney Sparkle which has given us Christmas Trees decorated by leading fashion designers, interactive lighting displays and that unique Hackney twist to brightening up our high streets in the run up to Christmas. I hope this is the start of businesses starting to collaborate with the Council on exciting interactions on our streets.
In 2013 we won the Government’s Business Enterprise & Skills (BIS) award for Encouraging Business Exports. This followed the signing of our Business Friendship Agreement with Austin, Texas and our growing business and cultural relationships with Barcelona, Oslo, and New York. This provides platforms for our businesses to grow into new markets. In one weekend at the SXSW Interactive Festival in Austin 2013, Hackney House helped local businesses win over £7m in new business into the local economy.
Closer to home we are delighted that iCITY has submitted its planning application for turning the former 1m sq ft Olympic broadcast media centres into a dazzling new home for creative, tech and media businesses in the borough’s Eastern commercial centre, Hackney Wick. iCITY is emerging as one of London’s most exciting new business locations and win stiff competition to host the new digital sports channel recently launched by BT Sport. See www.icitylondon.com for more details.
We want this website to reflect what we do and to reflect the thoughts of our key business leaders. Each month we will profile a Hackney company and hear from its leaders.
Our mission is to support business development in Hackney. We will always find time to discuss your ideas and investment choices no matter how big or small your business is. Feel free to contact us directly – all of us are listed on our contacts page. We look forward to working with you.
Finally, we would like to thank our site sponsors: Stirling Ackroyd. With their support we are able to bring you this site and we will be able to add new sections to help with property searches, events and company profiles.
