HACKNEY APPRENTICESHIP NETWORK
The Hackney Apprenticeship Network supports employers to create, manage, and celebrate apprenticeships. It’s free to join the network; members can access a pool of local candidates, as well as funding and support to navigate the world of apprenticeship qualifications and training providers.
Our aim is to demystify apprenticeships, and make it as easy as possible for you to create high-quality opportunities which bring real benefit to your organisation and Hackney as a borough.
Hackney has experienced rapid economic growth in recent years. The Hackney Apprenticeship Network allows our residents to benefit from this growth through opportunities with local employers, and allows businesses to tap into the huge pool of talent we have in the borough, while connecting with other employers and benefiting from the opportunities of the reformed apprenticeship system.
The Hackney Apprenticeship Network is managed by Hackney Council. Through the Council’s apprenticeship programme, over 100 Hackney residents and school leavers are currently completing an apprenticeship with the council. All council apprentices over 18 earn at least the London Living Wage. In 2018, the Council was named the Top Public Sector Employer at the School Leaver Awards.

Organisations joining the Hackney Apprenticeship Network gain access to a range of support including:
Access to our pool of screened local candidates. We work with all Hackney schools, and engage with over 1,000 Hackney residents interested in apprenticeships each year
Support to navigate the apprenticeship funding system
The opportunity to apply to receive funding from Hackney Council for apprenticeship training costs
Support to identify suitable training organisations from our approved providers
Support to establish apprenticeships: creating job descriptions, contracts, and identifying the right qualification
Support to provide pastoral support and career development activities for apprentices
An annual celebration event
Hackney Apprenticeship Network kitemark accreditation, recognising your commitment to high-quality apprenticeships
Access to shadowing, secondment, and progression opportunities for your apprentices with other employers.
In order to join the Hackney Apprenticeship Network, we ask businesses to pledge to create at least one new apprenticeship that meets our apprenticeship criteria (within 12 months of joining the Network), or to already be employing at least one apprentice meeting these criteria.
Our apprenticeship criteria:
Pay a minimum salary of £7.50 per hour
Use a training provider with a minimum Ofsted rating of 2
Apprentice should be a Hackney resident OR have attended a Hackney secondary school OR be a care leaver who has been under the care of Hackney Council
