Christmas Lighting Ceremony

  • Hackney Town Hall Mare Street E8 1EA (map)

This year’s Christmas lights switch-on will be taking place on 29 November from 5pm at Hackney Town Hall, marking the start of a bumper-month full of festivities.

Hackney Speaker Cllr Councillor Sharon Patrick will be joined by presenters from Capital Xtra radio and characters from the Empire panto Mother Goose to push the button and switch on the lights. Your favourite Christmas carols will accompany the event from the Hackney Community choir, and the lucky winner of the Cycling Sparkle competition will be announced to what is sure to be a packed audience.

This year the tree decorations have been created by local fashion designers James Long, Lou Dalton, Princess Julia, Craig Green and had some help from local children.

From 1st December keep your eyes peeled, not just for Santa, but for a special 16 page Christmas supplement called Make Hackney Sparkle that’s packed full of festive event, shopping and community listings as well as some one-off special installations, that will all ages entertained throughout the holidays.
